HUMAN FOODS THAT YOUR DOG MUST NOT EAT

Alcohol

Alcohol can cause vomiting, seizure, diarrhea, decreased coordination, central nervous system depression, difficulty breathing, tremors, coma and even death. Dogs can even get alcohol toxicity by ingesting fermented foods if they eat enough of it.

Bones

Don’t feed your dog raw bones. He might choke or sustain severe injury if the bone splinters and become lodged in or punctures your dog's digestive track.

Caffeine, chocolate and coffee

When ingested by dogs, these can cause abnormal heart rhythm, diarrhea, excessive thirst, hyperactivity, panting, seizure, tremors, urination, vomiting, and even death. Note that darker chocolate is more dangerous than milk chocolate.

Citrus

Citrus contains citric acid which can cause irritation and even central nervous system depression if ingested in significant amounts.

Coconut products

These contain oils that cause stomach upset or diarrhea. Coconut water contains high concentrations of potassium and should be avoided.

Grapes and raisins

Kidney failure may occur.

Milk and diary products

Lactose in dairy products can cause diarrhea or other digestive problems.

Nuts

Nuts contain high amounts of oils and fats which can cause vomiting, diarrhea and potentially pancreatitis in dogs.

Onions, garlic and chives

These can cause gastrointestinal irritation and can lead to red blood cell damage.

Raw meat and eggs

These can contain Salmonella and E. coli that can be harmful to dogs. All mammals naturally have E. coli and most are harmful. In rare instances dogs can be infected. Don’t feed your dog raw eggs or meat. It decreases the absorption of vitamin B which can lead to skin and coat defects.

Salty foods

Salt can cause depression, diarrhea, excessive thirst, high temperature, seizure, tremors, vomiting, and even death.

Xylitol

Xylitol is used as a sweetener in numerous products, including sugar-free gum, sweets, baked goods, mouthwash and toothpaste. It leads to vomiting, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), coordination difficulties, seizures and even fatal liver failure.

Yeast dough

Yeast dough can rise and cause gas to accumulate in your dogs digestive system. These can be very painful and can cause the stomach to bloat and potentially twist.
